PROCEDURE TEXT

Salah satu bahan ajar bahasa Inggris yang diajarkan kepada siswa-siswi SMP adalah procedure text. Pada kesempatan kali ini saya akan memaparkan tentang procedure text, definisi, generic structure dan contohnya berikut videonya.

Kumpulan Soal "Reading Comprehension" Procedure Text

Meat Floss Porridge

Ingredients:
250 cc hot water
50 grams instant porridge
1 spoon soya sauce
1 spoon chilli sauce
crackers
10 grams meat floss
Suggested Preparation:
1. Put instant porridge into a bowl
2. Pour 250 cc hot water, stir well. Leave it for about 3 minutes until the porridge thickens
3. Add soya sauce and chilli sauce (as much as you like)
4. Then, spread crackers and meat floss. The porridge is ready to be served.

Speaking Script for Procedure Text

          MAKING A GLASS OF ORANGE JUICE

We need:
- a glass
- a spoon
- sachet of orange juice
- ice cubes

Do you know how to make it?
1. First, tear off a sachet of orange juice. Empty it into a glass
2. Second, put ice cubes into a glass
3. Third, pour water into it
4. Then, stir until it mixed
5. Finally, a glass of orange juice is ready to drink


          MAKING A BOWL OF BOILED NOODLE

We need:
- a pan
- a spatula
- a sachet of instant noodle
- two glasses of water
- a spoon
- a fork

How do we make it?
1. First, boil two glassess of water in a pan
2. Second, put a sachet of instant noodle into boiled water. Cook well
3. Meanwhile, put seasoning into a bowl
4. Then, pour cooked noodle with broth into a bowl
5. Finally, a bowl of boiled noodle is ready to be served


          MAKING A PLATE OF FRIED RICE

We need:
- a frying pan
- a spatula
- a plate of cooked rice
- a sachet of fried rice seasoning
- a plate
- a spoon
- two spoons of cooking oil

Do you know how to make it?
1. First, boil two spoons of cooking oil into a frying pan
2. Second, empty a sachet of fried rice seasoning into it. Mix until it smelled
3. Third, pour a plate of cooked rice into it
4. Then, mix well
5. Finally, a plate of fried rice is ready to be served


          MAKING PUDDING

We need:
- a pan
- a spatula
- a mold
- a sachet of pudding powder
- 120 g sugar
- 700 cc water

How do we make it?
1. First, empty a sachet of pudding powder into water
2. Second, cook until boil, mix well
3. Third, add sugar, mix
4. Then, pour into a mpld adn let it in the cold
5. Finally, pudding is ready to be served


          MAKING OMELETTE

We need:
- a frying pan
- a spatula
- 3 eggs
- onion
- salt
- seasoning
- cooking oil
- a fork

Do you know how to make it?
1. First, slice onion and put them into a bowl
2. Second, add seasoning and salt
3. Third, break three eggs into the bowl. Scramble until it mix
4. Fourth, boil two spoon of cooking oil into a frying pan
5. Then, pour scrambled eggs into it and cook until brownish
6. Finally, omelette is ready to be served

Procedure Text

The purpose of a procedure text is to explain to make or hor to do something through a series of steps.

Generic structure:
1. Goal : is the aim or the purpose of the text
2. Materials : are things needed to make or to do something
3. Steps : are ways to do the activity

Characteristic of procedure text :
1. using simple present tense, usually in imperative sentence form
2. using temporal conjunction such as : first, second, third, next, then, finally, etc
3. using action verb, for example: add, pour, cut, etc

Example of Procedure Text

I.
         This is Rianti She is a secretary. She works for a foreign company in Jakarta. There is a computer on her desk. She often types letters on the computer. She also answers the telephone and takes messages. Sometimes, she goes to meeting and takes notes.

II.
        My names is Kevin. My parents' name are Mr and Mrs Steward. I have two elder sisters. Their names are Jessica and Hanna. We like traveling. The place that we often visit is Bali. Almost every holiday, we go to my grandfather's house in Bali. He has a restaurant near Kuta beach. The restaurant faces directly to the beach so that people in the restaurant can see the sunset. The tourists like to visit my grandfather's restaurant.

        I have a neighbour. His name is Reno. He is a clown. He works in a carnival. His job is to entertain people. He makes people laugh. He wears a very colorful costume. He also wears a colourful wig and he paints his face. He is very funny and kind.
